Sometimes hand-me-down prayers are the best. Sometimes we don’t have the energy to pray our own words. Sometimes the way our brother or sister addresses our Lord teaches and pulls us into prayer in spite of slow-of-heart selves. The important thing, whatever the words we use or don’t use, is that our hearts turn Godward.
So amid all the distractions (previous post) on the Colorado trip, I found myself praying a prayer passed down from a woman who lived in the 12th century. Her name is Hildegard of Bingen and here is her prayer:
Holy Spirit,
giving life to all life,
moving all creatures,
root of all things,
washing them clean,
wiping out their mistakes,
healing their wounds,
you are our true life,
luminous, wonderful,
awakening the heart
from its ancient sleep.
This made a good Colorado prayer as you can see by the photos on the right.

Thank you. That is a beautiful prayer, illuminated by some fine pictures. From what sort of creature is that hipbone, do you think? And where were you in CO?

Well, there were bear not far away and elk all over. All the photos are from Rocky Mountain National Park or the Estes Park vicinity. So obviously there was a lot of good stuff that happened…not to mention great family time.

Beautiful prayer and photos, Elaine.
