Come now and see the works of God,
how awesome are God’s deeds
toward all people.
Psalm 66:5
Reflection: This photo is not from the trail, obviously, but it is the gathering place of the people who sent me out on the trail both times. Once a week throughout the year, a dozen or so people go to work in the basement below and make quilts which are sent around the world for Lutheran World Relief. And once a year we bring the quilts up to our worship space and pray for God’s blessing before they are packed up and sent on their way. Thus sometimes the labor of our hands becomes God’s awesome work to reach all people. But there is something else I can’t show you in a photo. Here in this same space, before we sing the last worship song, we break out of the box of Lutheran liturgy and share with one another where we have seen God at work during the week. We do this sharing as part of our renewal as a congregation. Some things shared are very simple: the wonder of walking in the newly fallen snow. Other things shared are eye-opening: one of our families volunteered at the family shelter only to discover that their daughter’s classmate was a resident at the shelter with her family. Other sharing is profound: one of our young adults returned from serving as a camp counselor and told how one of his campers came to faith in Christ that week. Since then our young adult senses God’s call into youth ministry. As we tell stories, we laugh, cry, smile and begin to see in a new way how awesome are God’s deed everyday toward all people.

Tomorrow’s verse is from Psalm 67:7.
Starting January 1, 2016, for 150 days I am posting a daily psalm verse with a photo that is a visual meditation on the text for me. Each day a verse from the next psalm is chosen until all 150 psalms have been featured. To participate you may subscribe to my blog at https://elainedent.net or “friend” me on Facebook and watch for the daily links to blog posts. Disclaimer: I am not a photographer and most of the photos are from a cell phone or small camera while hiking the Appalachian Trail or the C&O Canal/Great Allegheny Passage Trail.
