If there is anything that the first two days of Lent have reminded me of, it is this: that I can’t on my own love God with all my heart-soul-mind-strength or love my neighbor as myself. Only some hefty work of God’s Spirit can begin to shape my life to follow this way of living.
This morning I read in the email devotions I receive :
The ability – and the responsibility – to choose is a part of what makes us human. The way we make those choices, and the values we use in our decisions, reflect the influence our faith has in guiding us. Consider now the values that guide and direct you; think about the call of God to follow. How is God shaping you as you walk the path of faith?
The value that is guiding and directing me and the congregation this Lent is the word of Jesus to the scribe in Mark 12:28-31:
Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: you shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.
How God is shaping me as I walk this path of faith? By first showing me that I can’t possibly do this by myself.
